5-chapter guide

Stories

Share a photo or a short video that disappears after 24 hours. This guide covers posting one, who can see it, how watching and reacting work, and how to see who looked at yours.

Chapter 1

What Stories are

A Story is a single photo or short video you share with your friends and followers. It stays up for 24 hours and is then removed automatically, together with its file — you don't have to clean anything up.

Stories live on the Stories page of your community area, at /dashboard/community/stories. At the top is a row of circles, one per person: Add story for you, then everyone whose Stories you can watch. A person with a Story you haven't seen yet is marked as new.

The next chapters follow the order you'll use them in: posting, who can see it, watching and reacting, and seeing who looked and deleting.

Chapter 2

Post a Story

  1. Open the Stories page and tap Add story, then choose a photo or video from your device. On a computer you can also drag a file onto the page.
  2. A preview opens. Check it looks the way you want. Press Cancel if you picked the wrong file.
  3. Optionally type a caption in Add a caption (optional). It can be up to 200 characters, and a counter shows how many you've used.
  4. Press Post story. The button reads Posting… while the file uploads.
KindAccepted formatsLargest file
PhotoJPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, AVIF15 MB
VideoMP4, WebM, MOV50 MB

A file that is the wrong format, empty, or too large is refused before anything uploads, with a message that says which of those it is.

Up to 20 active Stories at a time

You can have 20 active Stories at once. If you reach the limit, delete one or wait for an older one to expire, then post again.

Chapter 3

Who can see it

Your Story is shown to two groups of people: your accepted friends and the people who follow you. It is not public, and it is not shown to anyone else.

The same rule works in the other direction. On your own Stories page you see the Stories of your accepted friends and the people you follow, plus your own.

Blocking works both ways

If you have blocked someone, or they have blocked you, neither of you sees the other's Stories, even if you were friends or followers before.

Followers who have the bell turned on for you get a notification when you post. If you post several Stories in a row, each follower is notified once for the group rather than once per Story.

Chapter 4

Watching and reacting

Tap a person's circle to open their Stories. They move on by themselves, and you can steer them:

  • Tap the right half to go to the next Story, the left half to go back.
  • Press and hold to pause. Let go to carry on.
  • Drag down and release to close the viewer.

On someone else's Story you can react with one of five emoji: ❤️ 😂 😮 😢 👍. Your reaction is saved, so when you come back to a Story you already reacted to, your choice is still shown. The person who posted it sees your reaction in their viewer list (next chapter).

Chapter 5

Seen by, and deleting

When you open your own Story, the reaction row is replaced by Seen by. It opens a list of the people who watched it. Those who reacted are listed first, under Reacted with their emoji, followed by those who only looked, under Viewed.

To take a Story down early, delete it from your own Story. KalHope asks Delete this story? first, and the Cancel button is selected by default, so pressing Enter by accident does not delete anything.

You don't need to delete old Stories

Every Story is removed automatically after 24 hours, along with its photo or video. Deleting is only for when you want it gone sooner.
